When we sat down trying to write this and describe ourselves, we found that the term anti-loneliness activists fitted us quite nicely!  Our mission, through the medium of this web-site and other means, is to assist people make connections with others. It is that simple.

In this modern world, even though we have many conveniences, our lifestyles are often immersed in jam-packed routine that is not very conducive to making relationships. To combat this affliction, we felt it important for people to have free access to a resource like this website where they can mimic their real-life relationship-seeking efforts on-line.

Loneliness

Loneliness is a scourge.  There is no milder way of putting it.  Most of us have felt its cold suffocating hands at some time or other, in any of its multitude of disguises.  At times we have wished there was someone that we could simply talk to, someone who would understand.  At times we have felt a strong attraction to someone and not found the strength or means to express it.  At times we have felt a strong sexual desire for someone and walked away feeling totally miserable.  At times we have endured deep suffering just because we felt that we had to maintain a relationship that was only taking and not giving.  At times we have felt we have found the love of our lives but ended up spending most of our time unhappy -- emotionally drained, sexually deprived or without inner peace.  The human psyche is indeed a complex thing.

All is not lost however.  Today, we have very powerful means of communication at our disposal, unlike our forefathers.  We can broadcast ourselves to the world at large, in many different ways, the internet being one of the most accessible.  There are millions of 'dating' and social-networking sites which help people connect in new ways.  However, we found that all such web-sites have certain short-comings, in that they are rarely able to project our real-life personalities or cater to our true aspirations.  Most of the time you also end up parting with ridiculously large amounts of your hard-earned money in the process.  It is a very complex task to try mimic the workings of the human psyche with a computer program.

Real-life simulation

For example in real-life, however repugnant the notion may sound, most of us have different 'profiles' that we project to different people!  We find the idea of 'branding' a person with a single profile ridiculous.  Every person is a cauldron of kaleidoscopic qualities, exhibiting different facets at different times to different people.  In figwire.com we enable you to create multiple profiles to mimic this. Then in real-life we do not go through pages of profiles and choose from them.  In fact, we do not even look at those who do not fit exactly what we are looking for!  Hence we built our searches to reveal only those that match what we are looking for -- and who in turn are looking for attributes that we possess.  In figwire you have very little chance of  finding someone who is not actively looking for you at the same time!  Hence the chances of your not getting a reply to your messages are minimal, as they possibly could be, provided of course, that the profiles of both parties are a sincere representation of what you are looking for.

There are no hundreds of unsuitable 'matches' to deal with here. Instead you just spend your valuable time, refining your profile or profiles -- in terms of what you are and what you are looking for. These are just 2 examples of the kind of real-life environments that we try to simulate on our site.
